May 7, 2019 | The Third Expert Advisory Committee of the Leading Group of the State Council on Deepening the Reform of Medical and Health System
On May 7, 2019, in order to strengthen a scientific and democratic decision-making process and fully employ experts’ importance in consultation, the Department of System Reform of the State Council set up the Third Expert Advisory Committee of the Leading Group of the State Council on Deepening the Reform of Medical and Health System.
Dr. Yuanli Liu was appointed as a member of the Third Expert Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee is composed of experts in medical and health-related fields and is employed from 2019 to 2022. The main responsibilities of the Expert Advisory Committee are: to provide opinions of consultation and argumentation on major development plans and important documents of the reform of the Medical and Health System; to conduct investigations and studies on key points, difficulties, hot issues, new situations and new problems of the Reform; to evaluate the progress and the effect of the Reform; to study and analyze the practices and experiences of medical and health system reform of other countries and to put forward suggestions for China's reform on referring international experience; to interpret and publicize policies of the Medical and Health System Reform to the public in accordance with the work deployment; and to undertake other important matters committed by the Leading Group of the State Council on the Reform and its secretariat. Director Mr. Liu said that he would "think more, do more and talk more about the Medical Reform" so as to assist with the “one change” (from passive treatment to proactive health) and “two key points” (solving the problem of “expensive and inaccessible medical treatment”) of the work of health China and deepening the Reform with a strong sense of mission, responsibility, and honor.
May 8. 2019 | Dr. Liu met the Minister of Health, Sports, and Welfare of the Netherlands
On May 8, 2019, the Minister of Health, Sports, and Welfare of the Netherlands visited China. Dr. Liu and the Vice President Mr. Pingjiang Qi, on behalf of the Chinese Ageing Well Association, attended the event.
Both the Netherlands and China are facing
the huge challenge of how to cope with the aging population actively and effectively. From the introduction and sharing of the Dutch delegation, Dr. Liu learned the Netherlands' valuable experiences and diligent efforts in dealing with the aging issue. For example, in order to ensure the "abnormal" dementia elderly people to have their “normal” and free life, nursing homes are set up to and the dementia patients with mobility are allowed to enter and leave their nursing homes freely if they wear an electronic positioning bracelets, while the staff of the surrounding institutions (such as the grocery stores and restaurants that the elderly often go to) have taken the “cooperation training” from the nursing homes so as to ensure the safety of the elderly. It is hoped that this measure could be taken in China as well.
May 15, 2019 | Delegation of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention visited School of Public Health of PUMC
On May 15, 2019, Dr. Liu invited Professor Zunyou Wu of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention to the School of Public Health of Peking Union Medical College for academic exchanges. Professor Wu clearly demonstrated the achievements and challenges in the detection and treatment AIDS among the general population in China with credible data. It is worth noting that the incidence of AIDS among the elderly has increased. The key infectious diseases and the key groups that should not be neglected in the era of non-communicable diseases, the main influencing factors and the effective intervention of the high incidence of AIDS among the elderly worth further studying.
May 21. 2019 | Dr. Liu met the Minister of Health, Sports, and Welfare of the Netherlands
On May 21, 2019, Dr. Liu, as one of the tutors, directed and organized the dissertation defense of the 2019 graduates of Social Medicine & Health Management and Public Health (Health Policy Concentration) of the School of Public Health of Peking Union Medical College.
Dr. Zhongwei Zheng, the Vice President of Peking Union Medical College, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Dr. Kejun Liu, the research fellow of Health Development Center for Medical Sciences and Technology of National Health Commission, Mr. Mingxiao Wang, the research fellow of China Meitan General Hospital, Dr. Jing Ma, the associate professor of Population Medicine Department of Harvard Medical School, Dr. Jing Sun, Dr. Linlin Hu, Dr. Juan Zhang, Dr. Yuping Wang, the associate professors of the School of Public Health of Peking Union Medical College attended the defense.
Zhiran Huang, Shichao Wu, Jing Guo, Zhi Liu, Shiyang Liu, and Zijuan Wang have passed the graduation dissertation defense successfully.
On May 23, 2019, the School of Nursing of Peking Union Medical College invited Mr. Yuanli Liu to deliver the course of Social Medicine for the second-year students majoring in Nursing. Mr. Liu shared his knowledge in three main aspects: the structure and function of the medical and health system, the review and summary of deepening the Medical Reform in China, and the view of current situation and future from the perspective of social contract. This course is in the main charge of Professor Min Zhang of the School of Nursing of Peking Union Medical College, who coordinates the teaching of scholars in the related fields so as to help nursing students to understand medicine from a macro perspective and to expand their interests in this field.
May 29. 2019 | 2019 Ph.D. Graduates of Epidemiology and Health Statistics of Dissertation Defense
On May 29, 2019, Dr. Liu, as one of the tutors, directed and organized the dissertation defense of the 2019 Ph.D. graduates of Epidemiology and Health Statistics of School of Public Health of Peking Union Medical College.
Dr. Yude Chen, the professor of the School of Public Health of Peking University, Dr. Tingfang Liu, the President of the Institute of Hospital Management of Tsinghua University, Dr. Mingqiang Peng, the Vice President of China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Dr. Jing Ma, the associate professor of Population Medicine Department of Harvard Medical School, Dr. Wei Li, the professor of National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases and Dr. Dongsheng Zhao, the research fellow of Academy of Military Medical Sciences attended the defense.
Jian Guo, Chunyu Zhang, and Feng Jiang have passed the graduation dissertation defense successfully.
May 30. 2019 | Dr. Liu was Invited to the Graduation Dissertation Defense of the Master Graduates of National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases
On May 30, 2019, Dr. Yuanli Liu was invited to attend the graduation disserration defense of Yanyan Zhao, Guijuan Deng, and Yuebo Wang, the master graduates of National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases. Yuebo Wang, the master student majoring in Public Health (Clinical Epidemiology Concentration) jointly trained by Professor Wei Li’s team and the School of Public Health of Peking Union Medical College passed the graduation dissertation defense
successfully.
